NEW DELHI:The Government of Telangana has decided to promote all students studying in Classes 1 to 9 in all government, aided and private unaided schools in the state.
As educational institutions were forced shut on March 16 following the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, many institutions had to forego examinations due to the ensuing nationwide lockdown.
The Telangana Government, in an order released on Tuesday, said: “The government...hereby decide to cancel the summative assessment (SA-2) examinations for Classes 1 to 9 and order to promote all students of Classes 1 to 9 studying in government, aided, private unaided schools during the academic year 2019-20 to next higher classes in academic year 2020-2021.”
The state said that "since there is no detention system for Classes 1 to 9, there is no need to conduct examinations".
No-detention policy is a system based on which students are automatically promoted to the next class.
The Central Board of Secondary Education had put out a notice on April 1 advising schools to promote all students in Classes 1 to 8.
