Tripura forms committee to frame policy on reopening schools, colleges

NEW DELHI:
The Tripura government has announced the formation of a high-level committee to work on the timings and modalities of opening educational institutions in the state.
Educational institutions, including schools and colleges, have remained closed since March this year to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.
According to Northeast Now, Ratan Lal Nath, Tripura’s education minister, told the media on Monday evening: “We have decided to form a 32-member committee involving persons from different fields apart from the education department.”
The committee members will include social education and social welfare minister Shantana Chakma, former education minister Tapan Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor of the state-run Maharaja Bir Bikram University, Satyadeo Poddar, and Vice-Chancellor in-charge of Tripura Central University, MK Singh. Nath will lead the committee.
The chairperson of the
State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Nilima Ghosh is also a member of the committee.

, Satyadeo Poddar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Bir Bikram University said “For PG program, in my university, we have started conducting an internal assessment on online mode from today only for PG programs. However, a good number of students are there enrolled in UG programmes. So it is still to be decided what will be the modalities for them.”
He also added that though online classes are going on, a sizeable section of students are not attending or are not being able to attend, which is a cause for concern. Poddar said they will “work on it”. Universities across the country, including
Delhi
University
and
Panjab
University
, are having to pick between offline and online exams as the number of COVID-19 cases soar.
The committee will further work on the steps to follow at the time and opening and after that.
“But one thing is clear unless the corona crisis is controlled, there cannot be any examination,” Satyadeo Poddar concluded.
