Tripura schools to remain shut till April 27 due to heatwave

Tripura Schools: In past ten days, the maximum temperatures in Tripura has been consistently 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than usual.
NEW DELHI: Tripura government has asked all schools to remain closed till April 27 due to the prevailing heat wave in the northeastern state. The state's education department issued a notification instructing all district education officers to communicate the message to schools within their area of authority.
NC Sharma, the Additional Secretary of Tripura's Education (School) Department, stated that due to the ongoing heat wave and following the recommendation of the Revenue Department, the state government has opted to shut down all government, government-aided, and privately-managed schools from April 24 to April 27.
“In response to the prevailing heatwave throughout the state and in pursuance of the advice of the Revenue Department, Govt of Tripura dated 23/04/2024, it has been decided that all the Government and Government Aided Schools under Education (School) Department, Govt. of Tripura, Schools under TTAADC and Privately Managed Schools will remain closed w.e.f. 24/04/2024 to 27/04/2024. All the District Education Officers are hereby instructed to convey this decision to each and every school under their jurisdiction,” read the official notice.
Temperature rising consistently
The Education Department's instruction came in response to guidance from the Revenue Department, indicating that Tripura has been experiencing high temperatures and humidity for the past week. In the last ten days, the maximum temperatures in Tripura has been consistently 4 to 6 degrees Celsius higher than usual.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts these conditions to continue for several days. Previously, the Tripura government classified heatwaves, sunstroke, and sunburn as state-specific disasters.
