UGC approves three more universities to offer online degree programmes

Lovely Professional University, Punjab and Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Tamil Nadu are the among the 3 universities added to the list.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has allowed three more universities to offer full-fledged online degree programmes in addition to the 49 universities approved so far.
Vignan’s foundation for Science, Technology and Research, Andhra Pradesh, Lovely Professional University, Punjab and Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Tamil Nadu are the three universities added to the updated list.
The online programmes offered by these three universities include BA in Business Administration in various specialisation and Masters in Computer Application, Commerce, Science, Arts etc.

UGC has announced that the July academic session will commence from November 2021 and the last date of admission will be on December 15 under exceptional circumstances.
The universities can offer these programmes as long as they comply with the NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements as per UGC regulations, and if not, they can discontinue the programmes and inform the UGC accordingly, the UGC notice said.
On October 28, the commission had earlier approved seven more institutions to offer online degree programmes in addition to 42 universities. Taking the total number of institutions approved by UGC to offer these programmes to 52.
Jamia Millia Islamia, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala had increased the number of online courses in the last list updated by the UGC.
On July 29, the government informed the parliament that 42 new universities (online mode) were allowed to offer various programmes to make-up for loss due to the lockdown period. However, now there are 52 universities that has the approval of UGC to offer online courses.
