UGC directs education institutes to celebrate 75-day long Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav from September 28

University Grants Commission has directed HIEs to conduct exhibitions, workshops and competitions on Indian languages.
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the higher education institutions (HIEs) to celebrate Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav from September 28 to December 11. The theme of this year’s Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav will be ‘several languages, expression one’. The event is part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat,
The UGC has asked the education institutes to appoint a nodal officer for coordinating the event, which is being held to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati on December 11. His birth anniversary is celebrated as 'Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas'.
The UGC has asked the institutes to conduct exhibitions, showcasing information about scripts, history, key historical figures, famous literature, cultural, historical and spiritual unity of all Indian languages. The university has also been directed to set up a technology zone featuring different tools and software for students that can be used for learning Indian languages. These zones will include programmes and tools which can be used for translating, downloading and teaching the languages.
Quiz, essay writing contests
During the 75 period, the universities will also conduct competitions such as language quiz, declamation debates, poetry recitation and essay writing. Cultural programmes depicting local traditions, folk-art, street plays and dramas will also be conducted. The commission has recommended organising a 'Bhashathon’ event based on Indian languages at university-level.

Meanwhile, the ministry of education will hold a ‘Technology and Bharatiya Bhasha Summit’ at Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), New Delhi on September 30 and October 1. The 75-days ‘Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav’ will be inaugurated on September 30. The theme of the summit is technology and Indian languages.
