NEW DELHI : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has removed Jharkhand’s Pragyan International University from the list of universities, after the state government declared it non-existent.
The commission informed that the university in Jharkhand’s Ranchi was established by the Jharkhand government. Accordingly, the name of the university was included in the list of universities, as maintained by UGC .
Explaining what went wrong, the commission said that after inclusion of its name in the UGC list of universities, the university was required to submit information for inspection purposes. “The university did not respond to telephone calls and emails sent by UGC. Therefore, UGC vide letter dated 19.06.2024 requested the Govt. of Jharkhand to apprise the status of the university,” read the official notice.
