Budget 2021: Allocations to centrally-funded medical colleges have risen slightly over this year’s budget estimates but not revised ones.
New Delhi : The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2021 in Parliament today and while the health sector, reeling under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen an increase in funding, health education has not. The budget for centrally-run medical colleges has increased very marginally over the current financial year’s budget estimates. An existing scheme for the establishment of new medical colleges and increasing seats in existing ones has also seen a small increase in budget from Rs 4,686 crore in Budget 2020 to Rs 4,800 crore in Budget 2021.
