UP 69000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment - High Court imposes stay on counselling

NEW DELHI: Allahabad High Court has imposed a stay on the counselling of recruitment of UP 69000 Assistant Teachers. The counselling session which was to be held from June 3 to 6 has now been postponed. The stay has been imposed due to the controversy raised after various complaints regarding the questions asked in the exam. The final merit list for the same was released on June 1, 2020 wherein a total of 67867 candidates were considered qualified for 69000 vacancies. As per the media reports, the Lucknow bench has asked the UGC Chairperson to take feedback from a team of experts on the controversial questions.

The next hearing related to the recruitment and counselling will be held on July 12, 2020

• January 7, 2019 - The court ordered a stay on the recruitment process due to cut off controversy.
• May 6, 2020- Allahabad High court supported the imposition of increased cut off and gave verdict in the favour of the government.
• June 3, 2020 - The Allahabad High Court imposed stay on the recruitment once again due to the controversial questions asked in the exam.
• July 12, 2020 - The next hearing is scheduled on counselling and allotment

A total of 4,10,440 candidates took the recruitment test

For filling a total of 69000 vacancies, a total of 410440 candidates appeared for the test. However, there were 431466 candidates who had applied for the exam and 21026 candidates failed to attend the exam. The test was held on January 6, 2019 at around 800 exam centres across Uttar Pradesh.

About UP 69000 Assistant Teacher Recruitment

The recruitment process has been in controversy since it has been conducted. The UP Assistant Teacher recruitment test was held on January 6, 2019, after which the imposition of increased cut off by the government led to unrest in the candidates and they moved to court. The cut off was increased to 65% for general category and 60% for reserved category candidates. Earlier, the Allahabad High court had given its verdict on May 6 favouring the government’s decision of raising the cut off scores.
