Sai Global University to come up in Aligarh; UP Cabinet approves proposal

The university will be sponsored by Om Sai Seva Samiti, Aligarh, and has been granted two years to complete the remaining formalities.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on September 15 approved a proposal for setting up a new university at Sarsaul village in Aligarh district, Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay told media at the Lok Bhawan. The proposed university would be sponsored by the Om Sai Seva Samiti, Aligarh and named Sai Global University.

"The expansion of higher education and improvement in its quality under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has added another chapter with this decision," Upadhyay told PTI.

The approval of the letter of intent (LoI) comes after Seva Samiti completes the required formalities and a committee recommends the proposal. The Seva Samiti has been given two years' time to complete all the remaining formalities, after which a letter of permission would be issued. The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Three universities in UP

In July 2026, UP Cabinet approved proposals to set up three new private universities , taking the total number of private universities to 56. The proposals were approved under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019. The higher education minister told the media that the Cabinet had also approved the issuance of Letters of Proposal (LoP) and operational authorisation to the sponsoring institutions.

The establishment of new universities reflects Uttar Pradesh government's commitment to expanding access to quality higher education. It will create learning opportunities for students across Uttar Pradesh.

One of the newly approved universities will be established by the Swami Brahmanand Saraswati Charitable Trust, Delhi, and will focus on agriculture education and research.

The second university will be set up by the Indian Institute of Management and Engineering Society, Ghaziabad, at Dasna village in the Ghaziabad Development Authority area.

The third university will be established by Anglo Sanskrit College, Fatehpur in Fatehpur Dakshini.
