Uttar Pradesh university exams to be held by August 15: Dinesh Sharma

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma also asked universities to declare results by the end of August and prepare a reduced syllabus for 2021-22

NEW DELHI: The deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Dinesh Sharma, in a meeting with Vice Chancellors of state universities on June 24, directed them to conduct all exams in universities by August 15 and declare results by the last week of August.

Sharma asked the universities to not hold exams for longer than one and a half hours. The exams are to be conducted with strict compliance to COVID-19 norms, the minister said. UP had put all university exams on hold in April due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also asked universities to start the new academic session 2021-22 from September so that students “do not face any kind of inconvenience in their studies”. Universities were also instructed to start admission procedures from August 15.

Reduce syllabus for 2021-22

The minister also directed the universities to prepare a reduced uniform syllabus “on a priority basis”. The minister discussed the possibilities of starting new courses such as biotechnology, biochemistry, nursing pharmacy in universities considering the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also directed that universities pay all pending dues to the dependents of the deceased staff and appoint these dependents in the state universities as per rules in the cases of death of COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 as per the order passed on April 1, 2020.

In the meeting, the minister also discussed the utilization of funds released for centers of excellence, work done on new proposals for centres of excellence, proposals received from universities under Research and Development scheme and no objection to colleges and updated status of pending cases for online affiliation, according to a statement released by the ministry.
