Dehradun schools closed today in view of orange alert for heavy rainfall

All Dehradun government and private schools will remain shut for Classes 1 to 12 along with Anganwadi centres.
Following an orange alert for heavy rainfall in six districts of Uttarakhand, the Dehradun district has announced closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres. All government and private schools across the district will remain shut for Classes 1 to 12.
As per the updated weather forecast issued on July 20, 2025 by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun and NDMA’s National Disaster Alert Portal, and communicated through the letter dated July 20, 2025 from the State Emergency Operation Center, an orange alert has been issued for Dehradun district for July 21, 2025.
According to the forecast, there is a possibility of heavy-to-very heavy rainfall at some places, and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, intense to extremely intense rainfall spells, and strong gusty winds (40–50 km per hour).

Currently, moderate to heavy rainfall is ongoing in all areas of Dehradun district. Due to this, there is an increased risk of landslides in vulnerable locations, which may lead to any untoward incident.
Orange alert in Uttarakhand
“In view of disaster mitigation, a one-day holiday is declared for all educational institutions operating classes 01 to 12 and Anganwadi centers in the district on July 21, 2025,” the district magistrate said in an official order.
All government, non-government, private schools and all Anganwadi centers in the district will remain closed today. The chief education officer and district program officer have been directed to ensure strict compliance with this order across all concerned institutions.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, the weather office has predicted lightning accompanied with strong winds in some areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar. The centre also said that letters have been sent to the district magistrates directing them to remain on alert and take necessary precautions.
