Jammu Rain Alert: Students of Classes 9 to 12 may attend online classes where possible. School authorities are directed to complete sanitation, safety checks, and follow SOPs before resuming physical classes.
All schools in the Jammu division will remain closed till August 30, 2025. The Directorate of School Education (DSE), Jammu, has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, citing severe weather disruptions caused by continuous heavy rainfall in the region.
“All government and private schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed up to August 30, 2025,” the directive said.
According to the order issued by the Director School Education Jammu, Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, several schools are experiencing waterlogging and accumulation of mud on their premises, making them unsuitable for conducting physical classes. Flooding in low-lying areas has further restricted access to educational institutions.
Reports from several districts indicate a higher risk of landslides, mudslides, and falling stones that may threaten students and staff. Road conditions, including blockages and erosion, have made travel to schools unsafe in multiple areas.

Online Classes for senior student
The DSE has advised school heads to conduct online classes for students of Classes 9 to 12 wherever internet connectivity and infrastructure permit. “Heads of Institutions (Hols) are advised to assess the feasibility of conducting online classes, especially for students of Classes 9 to 12, wherever suitable infrastructure and internet connectivity are available,” the official notice said.
The order also directs Chief Education Officers (CEOs) and heads of institutions to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued for safe reopening of schools before resuming physical classes. Schools are further ordered to conduct thorough cleaning, sanitation, and safety inspections of their premises before reopening.
Parents and students are urged to stay updated through official school communication channels regarding any changes or further directives. The directive further states that the situation will continue to be monitored, and further instructions will be issued based on prevailing weather and ground conditions.
