NMC approves renaming of Ahmedabad's AMC MET Medical College after PM Narendra Modi. The idea was first proposed in September 2022.
NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission approves Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Medical Education Trust (AMC MET) Medical College's request to change its name to Narendra Modi Medical College.
In September 2022, the municipal corporation unanimously passed the proposal in favour of renaming the college. After NMC's approval, the college will officially be known as Narendra Modi College, Ahmedabad. The NMC approved the proposal and stated "..to convey approval of Medical Assessment and Rating Board for name change of medical college from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Medical Education Trust Medical College, Ahmedabad to Narendra Modi Medical College, Ahmedabad."

"Since this medical college was built during PM Modi's tenure as Gujarat chief minister, everyone was of the opinion that it should be named after Narendrabhai so that people remember his contribution. That is the least we can do for a person who did so much for the state and the city," said municipal corporation standing committee, chairman, Hitesh Barot to PTI.
The initial idea for the change in name was proposed by Barot during MET's executive committee. The proposal was considered as an 'urgent matter' in the subsequent meeting and was quickly accepted. "It was Modi's vision to strengthen medical education in the state by building colleges so that the state gets more doctors to serve people. The AMC has named the college after Modiji as a tribute to his vision," added Barot.
