ASSEB announces new rules for Assam HSLC failed students; Class 10 re-admission till August 14

ASSEB issues fresh guidelines for unsuccessful HSLC candidates, including re-admission, half-yearly exam

Download EBookThe Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division-I, has issued a notification stating that students who failed the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2026 and wish to continue their studies will have to take re-admission in Class 10. Only after re-admission will they be eligible to appear for the subsequent HSLC examination.
Schools and students must follow during the re-admission process. The re-admission process will be completed by August 14, 2026. As per the notification, students may seek re-admission in the same school where they appeared for the HSLC examination 2026. If the parent school is unable to accommodate them, they may take admission in another school within the same examination centre.
There will be no change in the registration number, and students will appear in the next HSLC examination using the same registration number.

Option to change elective subject
Students who wish to change their elective subject will be allowed to do so before the half-yearly examination. However, no request for a change of elective subject will be accepted after the half-yearly examination.
Schools admitting such students will be responsible for conducting practical assessments for the period of study and submitting practical or internal assessment marks to ASSEB as per the prescribed guidelines.
Half-yearly exam compulsory
The board has made it mandatory for re-admitted students to appear in the Class 10 half-yearly examination. Students who fail to appear in the half-yearly examination will not be permitted to sit for the next HSLC examination.

Heads of institutions have also been directed to monitor the attendance and academic progress of these students and ensure they are included in remedial classes according to their learning needs.
Assam HSLC 2026: Statistics
The Assam HSLC Examination 2026 recorded an overall pass percentage of 65.62 per cent, with 2,81,701 students clearing the examination out of 4,29,249 candidates who appeared. A total of 4,38,564 students had registered for the Class 10 board examination. Boys outperformed girls with a pass percentage of 67.78 per cent, while the pass percentage among girls stood at 63.96 per cent.
