NEW DELHI: Amid the increasing spread of coronavirus, The Bar Council of India has asked the universities to conduct online examination for the final year LL.B students.
All other students, as per the BCI guidelines, will be promoted based on the marks obtained in the past semesters. All final year students of LL.B three years and five years are allowed to sit for online examinations.
The university can also “adopt other appropriate methods” which are adequate to satisfy the requirements for the promotion of students.
According to a BCI statement issued on Tuesday, the final-year law students can be asked to write a project report or a research paper for each paper of the final year. “They may adopt a fool-proof method to double the internal marks of the semester exams already held for such a year,” the statement said.
The students who have backlogs have been given the option to sit for the online exam or write a project report or a research paper for the pending papers.
Reopening of colleges
The statement clarified that universities and the colleges, upon its reopening, will conduct the end semester examinations for all the students promoted. Such promoted students will continue to study in the year to which they have been promoted.
“In case, they are unable to pass/clear any such paper of such end-semester exam of the year from which they have been promoted, they shall have to clear the same, before they are granted the degree,” the guidelines added.
The universities have been further directed to observe “COVID-19 protocol” and ensure that social distancing is followed in the campus after its reopening. The classrooms and exam halls will be sanitised regularly to ensure the safety of students.
