Banaras Hindu University has not implemented fee hikes in 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years. No new decision to increase hostel fee is taken, BHU clarified.
NEW DELHI: Calling the fee-hike claims baseless, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in a series of tweets clarified that there is no increase in fees for students as circulated in social media and other platforms. However, the new proposal for fee hike will be implemented for students taking admission this year.
As far as increase in fees and hostel charges is concerned, there is no new decision taken by the university. “The decision of partial increase in some items was taken before the academic year 2019-20. The proposed increase is for candidates taking admission in 2022-23. Current students will not be affected by this,” it said.
It further said that the university has not implemented fee-hikes in 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years. Instead, with an aim to provide relief to the students affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BHU has refunded the difference in fees for all the students who paid the increased fees. The decision to refund fees for these students was taken in August 2022.

BHU has appealed to all the students and stakeholders “to be aware of the propaganda being done by certain sections in the name of fee hike in the university and to avoid confusion and misinformation being spread about this”.
“Banaras Hindu University is taking new initiatives in this direction, moving forward on the idea of Mahamana for student welfare and their all-round development. The schemes launched in the last few months for the welfare and well being of the students are a reflection of this commitment of the University,” it added.
