NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon announce the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025 exam dates on its new official website, neet.nta.nic.in. The exam is conducted annually for candidates seeking admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses in India.

In recent updates, NTA has announced that the NEET UG 2025 will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode on a single day, and in a single shift. Earlier, NTA asked NEET UG 2025 aspirants to use their APAAR ID and Aadhaar-based authentication during the NEET UG registration 2025.
NTA has issued the NEET UG 2025 syllabus on the new official website; neet.nta.nic.in, however, the exam dates are yet to be announced. As per past trends, the NEET UG 2025 notification is expected to be out in the third week of February 2025.
Candidates going to appear for the NEET UG 2025 exam should focus on strengthening their understanding of biology, it accounts for 50% of the final NEET score and carries 50 questions each from both botany and zoology in the exam. The detailed preparation plan for the NEET UG 2025 exam is provided here, along with chapter-by-chapter weighting and tips from subject experts to help candidates maximise their scores.
NEET is one of the most competitive medical entrance exams in India. While preparing for this exam, many students often wonder if NCERT books are enough to crack the exam. Questions in the NEET UG examination are asked based on the NCERT syllabus of Class 11 and Class 12.
As per one of the NEET toppers, AIR 1 Soyeb Aftab, candidates must thoroughly go through NCERT books which form the base for every question. Subject experts from various institutes such as Physics Wallah, and Exemplar Point Pvt. Ltd, Infinity Learn by Sri Chaitanya, and Narayana Educational Institutions also advise NEET aspirants to focus on NCERT during preparation.
“The NEET UG Biology syllabus is entirely based on NCERT, as outlined by NTA and NMC. While the book is compact, its content is deep and layered. Avoid studying beyond NCERT; it contains everything you need,” Vipin Kumar Sharma, Faculty at Physics Wallah said.

Students should also cover the important topics of biology from NCERT or other reference books and prepare them thoroughly. Students should also practice drawing and labelling diagrams, as they play a very important role in the scoring of NEET biology.
“Biology is visual. Ensure you understand and can label diagrams, particularly for topics like Anatomy, Plant Physiology, and the Human Body,” says P Sindhura, director of Narayana Educational Institutions. Class-wise NEET UG biology important topics and sub-topics are given in the table below.

Biology carries the highest weight in the NEET UG medical entrance exam. The biology syllabus for NEET covers both Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT topics, including human physiology, plant and animal biology, biotechnology, and ecology.
Students should plan their NEET UG preparation around chapters having a high weightage. Students should not leave any topic but rather study every topic thoroughly even the ones with less marks weightage to score well.
“Allocate more time to chapters that carry significant weightage in the exam. Only understanding the concepts and diagrams will not help students to score in the NEET biology section, practice and revision are also important. Solving NEET UG previous years' papers can help students to understand the difficulty level of questions asked in exams and paper patterns.
Keshav Agarwal also suggests students to use topic-specific question banks and to attempt a variety of questions, ranging from direct to complex application-based problems.
Mock tests play a vital role in any competitive or entrance exam preparation. NEET UG mock test will familiarise students with the NEET UG exam pattern and help them to improve their speed, accuracy and time management while answering questions. Students should attempt NEET UG mock tests analyse where they are lacking and work on them to give the best in the exam.
“After every mock test, dedicate time to analyze your performance. Understand your mistakes and identify patterns, why they happened and how to avoid them on exam day. Use this phase for targeted revisions to improve weak areas,” said Vipin Kumar Sharma.
