Thousands of Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants once again took to the streets in Patna demanding the immediate release of the Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 notification. The protest, held outside Patna College, intensified after police attempted to disperse the crowd, leading to clashes between students and security personnel. Protesters started gathering outside the main gate of Patna College from around 9 am, while police personnel had already been deployed at the site in anticipation of the protest.

Soon after the confrontation, police detained several students and shifted them from the protest area. According to officials, the aspirants were stopped while preparing to march from Ashok Rajpath to Dak Bunglow crossing. Protesters alleged that force was used during the action and claimed that student leaders, including Rinkle Yadav and Khushboo Pathak, were detained.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma said the protesters were detained between Patna College and Bihta before they could gather for the march. He added that demonstrations are only permitted at Gardani Bagh, which has been designated for protests and dharnas. Security personnel were also deployed at sensitive locations across the city to prevent any untoward incidents.

Notification delay is causing uncertainty

Candidates said that the delay in releasing the BPSC TRE 4.0 notification has created uncertainty. Apart from TRE 4.0, aspirants also flagged concerns over the recruitment pattern and salary structure. Protesters argued that the lengthy process demands significant investment of time, money and resources from candidates.

Another key demand raised during the protest was the implementation of a domicile policy to prioritise local candidates in recruitment. Despite assurances from newly appointed Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari that the matter would be addressed, resentment among candidates continued to remain high.

Earlier on May 9, police had booked around 5,000 TRE-4 aspirants and arrested four people, including student leader Dilip Kumar, after clashes broke out during a protest in Patna . Officials alleged that protesters disrupted traffic, breached barricades, disturbed public order and misbehaved with police personnel.
