NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 26: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to make changes to the class 10 and 12 board examinations for the 2019 session. The class 12 practical exams, which are generally, held in January will witness more changes due to the JEE Main examinations to be held between January 6 to 20.
National Testing Agency (NTA), the organizing body for conducting JEE Mains exam from 2019, has made stipulated changes in JEE pattern earlier this year by deciding that exams would be conducted twice a year from 2019. As the first set of JEE Mains exam 2019 is scheduled to be held in January 2019, which is also the time for 10th and 12th board practical exams, CBSE may bring in certain changes to the practical exam dates, ensuring that students do not face any problem.
Many class 12 students would be appearing for the JEE Main exam for entry into undergraduate engineering courses across the country . CBSE affiliated schools conduct practical exams and internal examinations in January according to the dates decided by CBSE. As the dates for two could overlap, students who are preparing for both JEE Mains and practical exams would certainly be in trouble. CBSE could, thus, pre-pone the practical exam dates and settle the dates for December. CBSE could also look for other options like stretching the schedule of practical exams for over a month which could give enough time-gap to students for appearing in JEE Main exam. CBSE had earlier pre-poned the schedule of vocational courses due to JEE Main exam schedule which also strengthens the uncertainty about rescheduling practical dates back to December rather than postponing any further.
Schools are, however, uncertain of any move as of now but holding the practical exams in the month of December could be a bit hectic. Holding practical exams by schools is a long process which includes arrangement of dates by regional centers of CBSE, selection of teachers for practical exams and collection of marks from schools by CBSE. Ensuring no student is in condition of overlapping practical exam, JEE Main and issues with the school, CBSE is left with choices of preponing the practical exam dates or stretching the dates over a month.
