CBSE explains 'roll number not found' error on portal amid student concerns

Download NowThe Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified concerns raised by some students and parents over functioning of its post-result services portal, stating that the application window for verification of marks and re-evaluation remained fully operational throughout the period from June 2 to June 7, 2026.

Over 1.6 lakh candidates successfully submitted requests related for over 3.8 lakh answer books during this period. The process was conducted under the supervision of government technical agencies and teams from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Certain media reports and social media posts questioned the functioning of the post-result services portal, as some candidates reporting that they encountered a "roll number not found" message while attempting to access re-evaluation services.
Addressing the issue, CBSE said the message appeared only in cases where candidates had not successfully applied during the first phase of the process, that was the answer books photocopy application window.
"As clearly outlined earlier, only those candidates who had applied for their scanned answer books during the preceding stage were eligible to avail the subsequent stage of Verification of Issues Observed and Re-evaluation of Answers," CBSE said.
Portal monitored by cybersecurity teams
CBSE stated that the portal remained under continuous monitoring throughout the application period.
CBSE's latest post on platform X reads, "The system remained under continuous monitoring by dedicated cyber security teams throughout the operational period to prevent malicious traffic and cyber threats.Dedicated CBSE teams also provided proactive support to students submitting their applications, through its helpdesk and grievance redressal channels."
CBSE stated that students facing issues during the application process were able to seek support through official communication platforms.
With the verification and re-evaluation window now closed, candidates who successfully submitted applications will have to wait for the reslts of the review process. As of now, there is no clarity if re-scanning and checking of answer sheets have started. The board maintained that it remains committed to ensuring a transparent, student-centric, and seamless post-result process.
