CBSE revamps curriculum for Class 9, 11

NEW DELHI, MARCH 12: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked schools to discontinue a few electives including English Communicative of class 9 and English Elective of class 11, from academic year 2018-19. The Central Board has issued a circular asking schools to discontinue a total of 6 electives – 3 each of class 9 and class 11.
The CBSE circular, which is a reminder of a similar circular issued last year, has asked schools to not offer these subjects from the 2018-19 academic session. However, students pursuing these subjects currently can continue the same in class 10 and 12 in the session 2018-19.
Two other elective subjects discontinued in class 9 include Information and Communication Technology and E-Publishing and E-office. For class 11, the other subjects discontinued from academic year 2018-19 include Dance, Multimedia and Web Technology.

Further, CBSE has also merged some elective subjects like Agriculture, Fashion Studies and Mass Media Studies with other vocational electives to be taught in class XI from academic year 2018-19. Besides this, Sanskrit Communicative has been renamed Sanskrit as prescribed by NCERT. The board has also renamed ‘Foundations of Information Technology’ to ‘Computer Applications’.
There will be also two courses for Computer students - Computer Science (Old) and Computer Science (New) for this academic year and the schools will have to opt any of the two courses for this year. The new course, however, will be made mandatory from academic year 2019-20.
