COVID-19 The ministry of education’s direction to postponed exams is for all centrally-funded institutions -- universities, IITs, NITs, IIITs and others.
NEW DELHI : The education ministry, on Monday, asked all centrally-funded institutions, including central universities, Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT) as well as others to postpone all offline exams scheduled in May. The decision will be reviewed in the first week of June.
The ministry, however, allowed institutes to continue with online examinations. The decision comes amidst an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
By the last week of April, more than a dozen states had shut universities amid the second-wave of coronavirus infections in the country.
University exams; IIT evaluation
There have been protests across universities demanding that exams be postponed. Delhi University deferred its exams by two weeks over the weekend. Students of Aligarh Muslim University sent an open letter to the Vice Chancellor, Tariq Mansoor, demanding postponement.
Several of the IITs have announced breaks and other measures. IIT Kharagpur has announced a semester break; IIT Delhi, following a survey conducted among students, relaxed its evaluation policy for students and researchers.
