Children’s Day 2022: History, significance; Why do we celebrate on Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday

NEW DELHI: Children's Day 2022 is celebrated across India to increase awareness of the child rights and education of children. It is celebrated on November 14 every year to also commemorate India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was also fondly known as "Chacha (Uncle) Nehru" among children. He advocated for children to have a fulfilling education. On this day, educational institutions organize various programmes like poster, drawing, speech and song competitions.
It was only in 1954 that the day was first celebrated Nehru's birthday as Childrens Day. More than 50,000 school children attended the celebrations in the national stadium in Delhi. And in 1957, November 14 was officially declared Children’s Day in India.
Children's day is celebrated on different days in different countries. On the other hand, World Children's Day is celebrated on November 20 to commemorate the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1959.

On this occasion, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, “Happy Children’s Day to all the young ones. For Chacha Nehru, children were special and he believed that all kids should get loving care and education that makes them rational human beings. Little ones are the future of our nation and I wish them unbound happiness.”

“Today on National Children’s Day, we wish our bright starlings, the children of India, an awe-inspiring future, a righteous approach in life & a prodigious career. We wish to set an example & do our utmost for them,” the Congress party tweeted.
