Coronavirus: Gautam Buddha University opens quarantine facility

NEW DELHI: Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh has opened quarantine facilities for suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19. It can accommodate 150 people.
The quarantine facility on the university campus comes up as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, rose to 22, including the five already cured. Across India, the number of confirmed cases has gone up to 166, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The Gautam Buddha University in an official statement said that the Dr BR Ambedkar Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Hostel-5 and Munshi Premchand Hostel will be used to quarantine infected people. The University Grants Commission has directed all universities to postpone examinations and earlier, the UP government had shut all educational institutions
Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Jay Pratap Singh along with District Magistrate B.N. Singh visited the quarantine centres to review their preparedness on March 19.
Quarantine facilities for nearly 60,000 people have been set up across the country. India has reported 166 cases with 148 “active” cases and three deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared coronavirus disease a pandemic.
