NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will shift to an online mode of education till January 16, 2022, as per the new Covid guidelines issued by the Indian government, owing to the increasing Covid cases in Uttar Pradesh. The vice-chancellor of BHU, Sudhir Kumar Jain took the decision in a meeting convened with senior officials of the university.

Covid-appropriate behaviour will be strictly implemented following the Covid guidelines where examinations are currently going on.

IMS BHU: “In the matter of students, resident doctors and teachers of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), BHU, the director of the institute will take the final decision. The interest of the students will be given utmost importance along with the service of the patients,” said a statement from BHU.

“Teachers should encourage the students to take part in online classes by motivating them with various interesting academic activities. Arrangements shall be made for providing the best available medium of online learning”, said Jain.

Jain further said that the library is the “heart of the university”, and hence it will be upgraded with better computers and increased seating for the students.

Sudhir Kumar Jain is the former director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar. He was appointed as the vice chancellor of BHU very recently, on January 7. He had been bracing for the third wave when he joined saying, “We have a lot of work to do in BHU , especially when a third wave of Covid is here!”
