NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has developed a technology based on Ultra Violet (UV) rays to disinfect and sterilize medical accessories.
The system also helps to disinfect N95 masks for reuse.
The product uses nanoparticles of metal oxide that are used in combination with UV lamps to eliminate microorganisms and any other suspended particles.
It has been tested at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, the institute said.
Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, in a statement released on Saturday, said that the institute is “ready to transfer the technology at zero cost to the Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) for mass production".
He further said that IIT Jodhpur is willing to work with industries for products development on this technology at zero cost.
“This can be our first contribution for rejuvenation of MSME sector which is the need of the hour,” Chaudhury said.
The product was created by a team of students and faculties led by Ram Prakash, associate professor, Department of physics.
Students from the departments of physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, bioscience and bioengineering were part of the project.
