NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay’s IDC School of Design has initiated a design challenge on finding solutions for the coronavirus pandemic. The department has identified ten design problem areas and has invited candidates to come up with out-of-the-box solutions.
The online competition, D’Source Corona Design Challenge (DCDC), is open to participants from around the world, in which students, fresh graduates, and young designers are eligible to participate.
As per the institute, the challenge encourages participants to follow a design process in solving the given problem with the steps of understanding and analysing it and ideating for a solution. “This is with the intention that your solutions are based on sound judgment. We request you to seek guidance from your faculty and professionals in the process of solving the problem,” says statement from IIT Bombay.
The institute has identified nine design problem areas. Participants can pick one or more. Candidates also have a choice of working on a problem that they have identified.
The nine areas identified are: creating awareness campaign; typographic poster on coronavirus; visual informational identity program; game design; narrative design; animation design; character design; product design; information design and interaction design to create a system to manage crowds in public spaces.
The candidates can submit the solution as a set of posters, a book or a video and they can also include a write-up of around 300 words explaining the solution as well as the design process followed.
