COVID-19 Lockdown: CBSE starts live fitness classes for students

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched live fitness classes for students, in collaboration with Fit India Mission.
The live classes will be conducted by experts and cover basic exercises, nutrition, yoga and meditation, and boosting immunity.
In its letter to the principals of affiliated schools, the CBSE says that along with ensuring classes are held online, “It is equally important to invest in their [children’s] overall physical, emotional and mental well-being at home during this period.”
The live classes will commence on April 15 at 9.30 am and will continue for a period of one month. The live sessions will be available on social media websites like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. These videos can also be downloaded and used at a later time as well.
Union human resource development minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' tweeted on April 13 that he has spoken to Kiren Rijiju, minister of state for youth affairs and sports about a collaboration between CBSE and Fit India Mission.
"The overall objective of these sessions will be to help children stay fit and healthy while pursuing online classes as well as help them to cultivate a sustainable and active lifestyle right from their younger days," CBSE said.
The board said that exercising releases chemicals called endorphins in the brain. “Even a short burst of 10 minutes of physical activity positively increases mental alertness, energy and mood,” the board said.
CBSE has asked all its affiliated schools to circulate the information about this initiative among parents, students and teaching fraternity for effective use.
