The Joint CSIR UGC NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for several purposes. These include the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as assistant professor, and admission to PhD programs in Indian universities and colleges. The exam helps in identifying qualified candidates for these academic and research roles.
A Junior Research Fellow selected through the CSIR National Eligibility Test (NET) will receive a stipend of Rs 37,000 per month for the first two years. Additionally, the fellow will be provided with an annual contingent grant of Rs 20,000 directly.
In line with the new University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) announced in May that it will use CSIR NET scores for admissions to its PhD programmes beginning with the 2024-25 academic session.
Once the results are declared, they can be accessed through the following websites: csirnet.nta.ac.in and nta.ac.in. To access the results, candidates will need to enter their application number and date of birth.
The CSIR UGC NET scorecard 2024 will include details such as the candidate’s name, mother’s name, father’s name, category, gender, application number, paper-wise marks, total marks, total percentage, qualifying status and CSIR-NET subject code.
Each CSIR NET paper carries 200 marks and is conducted in both English and Hindi. The exam consists of three sections that include subjective and multiple-choice questions, all of which must be completed within a three-hour time limit. Each question is valued at four marks, with a penalty of 0.5 marks for incorrect answers.
As per the CSIR UGC NET 2024 normalization method, the raw scores obtained by candidates in each session are converted into percentile scores ranging from 100 to 0. The percentile score is calculated by multiplying 100 by the number of candidates with a raw score equal to or lower than the candidate's score and then dividing it by the total number of candidates who appeared in that session.
The final answer key for the CSIR UGC NET 2024 has not been released yet. It is expected to be available either with the results or shortly after. Candidates will be able to download the CSIR UGC NET final answer key 2024 through the official website, csirnet.nta.ac.in.
Candidates from general, EWS, and OBC categories will have to score a minimum of 33% to be eligible for both fellowship and lectureship, while those from PwD, SC, and ST categories must achieve a minimum score of 25% to qualify for these posts.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) initially planned to conduct the Joint CSIR-UGC-NET in June 2024, but it was later rescheduled by a month. According to a circular issued by the NTA, the Joint CSIR NET exam, originally scheduled for June 25 and June 27, 2024, was delayed due to unavoidable circumstances and logistical issues. The exam was eventually held on July 25, 26, and 27.
Candidates who qualify for the CSIR NET 2024 should organise the required documents for verification. They must also download their e-certificates from the official website to use as proof of eligibility in the future.
Candidates will have to use their login credentials such as application number and date of birth to download the UGC NET 2024 scorecard.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the final answer key for the CSIR UGC NET along with the results. Subject experts will prepare the final answer key after reviewing the challenges raised against the provisional answers. The provisional answer key was published on the official website, csirnet.nta.ac.in, on August 8.
CSIR UGC NET result 2024 will determine the eligibility of aspirants for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Accordingly, the amount of JRF has been increased from Rs 31,000 to Rs 37,000 for the first two years.
The Union science and technology minister Jitendra Singh, in March, launched a common fellowship portal for PhD and post-doctoral scholars. The portal has been developed to provide information about fellowships under different departments. Candidates will be required to create a profile and will be able to use the same details to fill different forms.
In March this year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced its decision to allow use of CSIR NET scores for admissions to PhD programmes in Indian universities and colleges starting from the 2024-25 academic session. As part of the move, a new category has been introduced in the exam -- category 3 for eligibility for admission to PhD programme only while the category 2 has been revised to eligibility for admission to PhD without JRF and appointment of assistant professor. The UGC decision received mixed reactions and sparked a wave of concerns amongst aspirants.
