NEW DELHI: The Common University Entrance Test - undergraduate (CUET UG 2025) is adopted by 304 universities in India, the UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said. The single national-level entrance exam for UG admissions 2025 is conducted to reduce burden on students, he said.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) in a recent post shared a video of Jagadesh Kumar talking about the move towards a unified system with CUET adopted by 280+ universities.
“If there are multiple entrance examinations, it puts an enormous pressure on them (students). They have to write multiple entrance exams and the purpose is the same - admission. I think it’s better we move to one national level entrance exam. Technology is available now and the students can choose the appropriate subjects. It could be for medical, it could be for engineering, it could be for general science, humanities, social science, it’s a possibility we have to move towards that direction slowly and it is happening now,” he said.
Citing examples, he added: “CUET is now adopted by more than 280 universities. We have about 1,180 universities in the country and every year more universities are joining."
CUET 2025: Participating state universities
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the CUET UG 2025 exam from May 8 to June 1 in computer-based test (CBT) format. The CUET registrations 2025 will be closed on March 22. The application form has been hosted on the official website, cuet.nta.nic.in.
