Students who have successfully completed six semesters are eligible to submit their intent to the university. They can login to the university’s student portal, slc.uod.ac.in and opt for exit through the designated process.
Before submitting their desire to exit their programme, DU advised, students should consult with their teachers and mentors to ensure that they are taking an informed decision, after evaluating their academic and future goals.
“This initiative aligns with the NEP 2020's emphasis on providing multiple entry and exit points in higher education, offering students enhanced autonomy over their educational pathways,” stated DU.
NEP, UGCF provisions
Amid key recommendations of NEP 2020 are multiple entry, exit options to provide greater flexibility to students in higher education. Students will get a diploma, certificate, and honours degree based on their stage of exit.
The Executive Council of DU, in 2022, approved the UGCF which allows students to take an exit with a degree, provided they have earned the mandatory credits.
UGCF guidelines read: “The minimum credit to be earned by a student per semester is 18 credits and the maximum is 26 credits. However, students are advised to earn 22 credits per semester. This provision is meant to provide students the comfort of the flexibility of semester-wise academic load and to learn at his/her own pace. However, the mandatory number of credits have to be secured for the purpose of award of Undergraduate Certificate/ Undergraduate Diploma/Appropriate Bachelor's Degree in the field of Study/Discipline, to a student who chooses to exit at the end of even semesters.”
