DU issues guidelines for all colleges, departments for events, fests
DU advisory comes days after several men were seen climbing the college walls and gates of Miranda House and indulging in catcalling.

NEW DELHI : Delhi University (DU) has issued guidelines to all colleges and departments for conduct of events, fests and other programmes in college premises. The advisory comes days after several men were seen climbing the college walls and gates of Miranda House to witness an open Diwali fest on the campus, and allegedly indulged in "cat-calling and sexist sloganeering".

In an official statement, DU said that it has received an advisory from the police department and listed down the guidelines which are as follows:
- No event without proper permission of police should be organised or in case of emergency or lack of time at least one day prior intimation should be given to the police station, Maurice Nagar.
- If events, fests etc. are organised then only entry of a few college, department students be allowed. It should not be opened for all.
- Entry should be allowed only after the registration of the event with the ID of the college.
- Deployment of volunteers is also required at the same time of events. Hence, number of volunteers may also be intimated to the police.
- Necessary permission from other departments like fire, electricity, etc. may kindly be obtained.
- If any of the above guidelines is committed then the concerned college/department is solely responsible for any untoward incident happened during any event organised by the concerned college, department.
The students of Miranda House college had shared multiple videos on social media in which some men were seen purportedly scaling the boundary wall, roaming around on the campus and raising slogans.
While police said no complaint was received till then, they responded to the social media videos saying "some students (3-4) were trying to enter the college", but they were stopped and the October 14 Diwali programme remained "incident-free".
The Delhi Commission for Women had issued a notice to the city police and Delhi University's Miranda House over the incident.
