The University of Delhi’s (DU) department of continuing education and extension has launched a new tourism management programme. The initiative was taken after DU’s academic council endorsed job-oriented courses to equip students with practical skills for the growing tourism industry.

According to the official Delhi University statement, the new tourism management course will include several aspects of tourism management, such as heritage tourism, sustainable tourism practices, tourism marketing, and digital tourism platforms.

The details of admission for the first batch will be announced soon on the official DU website, du.ac.in. The tourism programme is designed to develop application-based understanding for students, serving as an important pillar of learning.

“As India, under the visionary leadership of our prime minister Narendra Modi, is continuously strengthening its commitment to develop a tourism-based economy, this course aligns perfectly with national priorities by providing access to global audiences to learn about the rich heritage of our country,” the official DU statement said.

The head of department of continuing education and extension Kumar Ashutosh said: “This course represents our commitment to providing education that is both academically rigorous and professionally relevant. "Tourism is a sector with immense potential for growth and employment generation. Through this program, we aim to produce skilled professionals who can contribute to India's vision of becoming a global tourism hub."

DU’a academic council has also approved several new language courses, which include a proposal by the School of Open Learning (SOL) to offer certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma courses in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages from the academic session 2025-26, among other programmes. Also, a one-year advanced diploma (JP-3) in Japanese will be introduced at Ramjas College.

DU vice chancellor Yogesh Singh urged all college-affiliated principals to prioritise permanent faculty appointments over hiring guest faculty during the DU AC’s 1022nd meeting. With inputs from PTI.
