NEW DELHI: The University of Delhi will begin the DU admissions process 2021 for undergraduate programmes around July 15, as per the ANI report. The University of Delhi will release the DU merit lists or cut-off lists depending upon the marks obtained in the Class 12 board exams.

"So far we've admitted students on merit basis. This year too, in view of Covid-19, we'll admit students on the basis of marks received in board exams, be it CBSE or others. Delhi University will release merit (list) using those marks," ANI quotes DU Vice-Chancellor, PC Joshi as saying.

Joshi also pointed out that the admissions process may be delayed this year and will commence as and when the board results will be declared. "The admission process will begin as and when board results are announced. But contrary to previous years, admissions will be delayed this year," Joshi added.

The DU admissions will start after the declaration of CBSE Class 12 results, to be announced on the basis of the new objective criteria, which is yet to be finalized. Anurag Tripathi, board secretary, CBSE told NDTV that the CBSE Class 12 objective criteria will be decided within the next two weeks.

The University of Delhi has three bodies responsible for the admission process - the standing committee, admission committee and academic council.

“We will not compromise on the merit-based admission. We will adjust to the new situation and see what method is to be developed. We will wait and see what are the criterion that the boards come out with for the evaluation of students,” Joshi told PTI .

Around 98% of the applications which Delhi University receives every year comes from the students belonging to the CBSE board.

Speaking to an NDTV reporter, Rajeev Gupta, chairman, DU admission, said, “Our main reference point is CBSE. But we are committed to the whole nation. So, if some other board delays the result due to any reason, then the students should not miss the opportunity. We will try from our end that the results of all the boards in the country should be available to us. Due to this, there is a possibility that the admission process can be delayed.”

"The University of Delhi fully supports the decision taken by the government of India to cancel the forthcoming CBSE board examinations in view of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. The University of Delhi also feels that the health and safety of our students is of utmost importance. The University of Delhi looks forward to the decision of the CBSE regarding the declaration of the results," Gupta told PTI .

The Ministry of Education will also soon review the situation and decide on the entrance examinations, including the CUCET exam.
