Education ministry asks educational institutes, UGC, AICTE to promote Mission LiFE, ‘swachchta’ campaign
The union department of school education and literacy will organnise a special cleanliness campaign from October 2 to 31.

NEW DELHI: Officials of the department of higher education, led by secretary K Sanjay Murthy, were administered the ‘swachchta’ pledge under the ‘Swachchta Hi Sewa’ (SHS) campaign.
Murthy also held a meeting with Vice-Chancellors and Directors of the centrally funded higher educational institute (HEIs) to sensitise them about the ongoing SHS campaign, and the Mission LiFE. Participants of approximately 170 HEIs, UGC and AICTE joined the meeting virtually. Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) isan India-led global movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.
The secretary requested the HEIs to participate in the campaign by mobilising students, faculty, and staff to support initiatives such as zero waste campaign, plastic-free campuses, visiting nearby waste processing plants, propagating SHS messages like the adoption of neighbourhood for Shramdaan and promote the principle of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’. He also encouraged the HEIs to imbibe the principles of ‘Mission LiFE’ in their institutions as outlined in the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.

Meanwhile, the department of school education and literacy said it was committed to minimise pendency of various matters and ensure cleanliness on its premises and its autonomous bodies. It added that the department was gearing up to initiate a special campaign from October 2 to 31 to institutionalise cleanliness and minimise pendency. This year, the cleanliness drive under the special campaign 3.0 will be undertaken in at least 3,000 sites as compared to 1,257 under special campaign 2.0, the department said. It also said cleanliness campaigns were conducted at 482 sites yesterday.
