Children’s Day 2021: In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on the birthday of its first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru
NEW DELHI : Adored and revered as Chacha Nehru among children, India celebrates Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary as Children’s Day every year on November 14. A prominent figure of the Indian freedom struggle, Nehru was also the first and longest-serving prime minister of India.
Nehru had deep faith in the potential of children and had said, “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow”. In order to nurture that potential, he went on to play a significant role in shaping the country's education sector. Major educational institutions including the Indian Institutes of Technology ( IIT ), the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were set up under his guidance. Nehru also laid the foundation stone of the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad, in 1961.

Besides, Nehru helped establish the Lalit Kala Academy and the Sahitya Akademi, and also headed the latter. Nehru’s legacy lives on in the country’s colleges and universities equipping today’s youth with knowledge and skills.
