IIT Delhi first-year BTech student found dead in apartment; institute mourns ‘untimely death’

The cause of the death is not known yet, and the Delhi police is investigating the “tragic incident.” IIT Delhi has extended its support to the student’s family after the incident.
“In this hour of grief, the Institute stands with the bereaved family and is providing them all support,” the official IIT Delhi statement said.
According to the official IIT Delhi statement, the student was found in his room on Thursday morning.
“IIT Delhi expresses deep sorrow over the tragic and untimely demise of a first-year undergraduate student whose body was found in his room at New Vindhyachal Apartment on Thursday morning,” the official IIT Delhi statement added.
Recently, IIT Bombay’s second-year civil engineering BTech student died by suicide in his hostel room. The incident triggered widespread anger on campus, pointing to administrative decisions and deteriorating hostel conditions as contributing factors to mental health pressure.
Earlier, IIT Delhi had adopted a new protocol to file a First Information Report (FIR) every time there’s a suicide or other “unfortunate incidents” on campus. The decision came after the Supreme Court ordered to conduct a thorough investigation into the deaths of students belonging to the reserved category.

The proposed law, named after Rohith Vemula, a PhD scholar at the University of Hyderabad who died by suicide on January 17, 2016, aims to address caste-based discrimination and harassment faced by Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in HEIs.
