IIT Delhi: School students showcase prototypes at IITD summer boot camp
IITD: The students used the research facility at IIT Delhi to develop their prototypes, received guidance from faculty and student mentors.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has concluded the Change.Makers summer boot camp organised by it today, June 24, 2022, with about 25 students of Classes 11 and 12 successfully completing the boot camp by showcasing the prototypes of the electro-mechanical projects they built. Under the initiative, the high school students received guidance from faculty and student mentors of IIT Delhi. The students were also able to make use of the facilities available at the research facility at IIT Delhi to develop their prototypes.
The IIT Delhi summer boot camp was organised by the Academic Outreach and New Initiatives office at IITD. During the boot camp's first week, the students were split into multiple teams and allowed to choose the problems they want to work on. In the second week, they were taught project-relevant fabrication skills. In the third and fourth weeks, they worked on the project and built and refined the functional prototypes with help from IIT Delhi faculty and students.
According to a statement from IITD, the boot camp, also enabled the students to visit research labs in the institute and facilitated interaction with leading researchers in the sciences and technology disciplines. The student teams worked on the following projects under the IIT Delhi's summer boot camp:
- Rehabilitation exercise monitoring
- Automating reuse of RO filtered water
- Aeroponics
- Trekker safety
- Quadruped terrain mapping robot
- Avoiding drowsiness in drivers
- Stretcher convertible seat in vehicles
- Real-time text to braille translator
- Rolling robot

“It was fascinating to see the enthusiasm, ideas and initiative of the young school students. We hope to enthuse school children to learn by doing and solve societal problems,” said Rangan Banerjee, director of IIT Delhi.
Mrinalini Singh, another school student, said, “My experience at IIT Delhi DIY boot camp was life-changing. Before the boot camp, I had no idea about power tools, electronics, or how to create CAD models. But our faculty mentors and project scientists taught us everything and we learnt to apply the theoretical knowledge to make tech that will help the mankind to step towards a sustainable future.”
