IIT Gandhinagar holds science awareness programme for Class 11, 12 school students

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar’s (IITGN) science awareness programme for school students of Classes 11 and 12 was attended by 200 students on February 22. The week-long awareness programme is expected to see participation from more than 800 school students and teachers from the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar region. The programme is conducted from morning 8 am to 2 pm until February 25.

The IIT Gandhinagar science awareness programme has been conducted as a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ by the Indian government. The IITGN programme is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the scheme, Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI). Through the programme, the institute aims to popularise STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) learning so that students can pursue careers in science-related fields.

As part of the IIT Gandhinagar science awareness programme, students were able to witness many scientific demonstrations. They also got the opportunity to visit the IITGN laboratories and the sports complex.

“I really enjoyed this visit to IITGN and various labs. We could see so many scientific demonstrations in-person and learnt a lot,” said Aastha Rawat, a science student from Class 12, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gandhinagar.

“This programme and each and every experiment being demonstrated here is truly stimulating. It is important for students to see that Science can be so interesting and exciting when learnt outside textbooks. It can ignite students’ curiosity and motivate them to explore more,” said Uzma Khan, a Chemistry teacher from Kendriya Vidyalaya 1, Gandhinagar.
