IIT Gandhinagar offers financial aid to 45% UG students; Rs 5.88 crore allocated

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar in a press release said that the institute allocated nearly Rs 5.88 crore in the financial year 2025-26 towards multiple student aid initiatives aimed at supporting students from varied socio-economic backgrounds. The financial assistance was extended through scholarships, fee waivers and other institutional support mechanisms.

The press note added that nearly 45% of its undergraduate (UG) students are currently receiving financial support in different forms, including scholarships, donor-backed aid and fee-related assistance. IIT Gandhinagar noted that affordability remains a key concern for many students pursuing higher education.

As per the release, IIT Gandhinagar provides full fee waivers for SC,ST and PwD students, while students from families earning below Rs 1 lakh annually are eligible for a complete tuition fee waiver. Partial fee concessions are also available for families with annual incomes of up to Rs 5 lakh.

In the press statement, dean of student affairs Manish Kumar said no deserving student should be denied educational opportunities due to financial hardship.

As of now over 85 scholarship and financial aid programmes are currently supported through alumni contributions, industry partnerships, donations and internal funding.

IIT Gandhinagar Scholarships: Beyond tuition fee

As per the press release, the institute’s support structure also covers expenses beyond tuition through initiatives aimed at easing everyday financial pressure on students.

Some major measures highlighted in the press note include:

• Full fee waiver for SC,ST and PwD students
• Full tuition waiver for families earning below Rs 1 lakh
• Partial waiver for income up to Rs 5 lakh
• Free Basic Messing (FBM) support
• Institute-backed soft loans
• Donor-funded scholarships
• No-interest education loan access in select cases

Postgraduate students can also receive fee-related support depending on parental income. IIT Gandhinagar said it is also focusing on academic continuity through foundation programmes, research exposure and interdisciplinary learning.
