IIT Roorkee host three days workshop on earth sciences

IIT Roorkee: ONGC awarded the prestigious ONGC Videsh trophy to the three students in MSc and integrated MTech programmes.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) hosted a national workshop on earth sciences from December 27 to 29. Participants in the three-day event at IIT Roorkee discussed cutting-edge research trends, ideas, and important fields for further inquiry in the field of earth sciences.
Dignitaries, guests, and experts on earth sciences participated in the inaugural programme at the MAC auditorium, IIT Roorkee.
The workshop held several events, including plenary talks, keynote addresses, and a wide range of oral and poster presentations, providing a complete overview of the most recent achievements in the field.
IIT Roorkee director, KK Pant, said: “In launching the national workshop on earth sciences (ESICET), the department of earth sciences at IIT Roorkee underlines its commitment to enhancing research and education since 1960. As we begin this workshop, it will serve as a national platform for exhibiting scientific advances, promoting collaboration, and contributing to India's continued growth in earth sciences.”
The programme also featured two distinguished guests of honours – president of horiba India, Rajeev Gautam and director of NRSC Prakash Chauhan who graduated from the department in 1986 and 1990, respectively.
Simran Guleriya (MSc in Applied Geology), Yash Sanjay Kute (Integrated MTech Geological Technology), and Akshay Kamath (Integrated MTech Geophysical Technology) received the ONGC Videsh Trophy for their academic excellence.
The workshop, with its agenda spanning precambrian geodynamics, sedimentary earth surface processes, geophysical techniques, and emerging tools in earth sciences, represented IIT Roorkee's devotion to pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field, the institute said.
