IIT Roorkee licenses antenna gain technology to MTEKPRO for wireless applications

IIT-R: The technology integrates a band-pass gain boosting surface to enhance antenna performance. The licensing agreement allows MTEKPRO to integrate the solution into its products for industrial applications.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has licensed a new antenna technology to MTEKPRO TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LTD, aimed at improving efficiency in wireless communication systems.
As per the institute, the innovation, titled “A system and method for gain enhancement in pyramidal horn antenna using band pass gain boosting surface (GBS)”, integrates a band pass gain boosting surface to enhance antenna performance.
The technology was developed by IIT Roorkee researchers Gowrish Basavarajappa and Kalyan Mohan Patnaik. The licensing agreement allows MTEKPRO to integrate the solution into its products for industrial applications.
IIT Roorkee officials state that the transfer reflects ongoing efforts to promote collaboration between academia and industry, ensuring research outcomes reach practical use. The institute highlighted that such partnerships support innovation in next-generation communication systems and strengthen India’s technological capabilities.
“This technology transfer marks another successful chapter in IIT Roorkee’s efforts to catalyse impactful academia-industry partnerships and advance sustainable technologies from the lab to real-world deployment,” the official press release said.

Collaboration aims to scale antenna innovation
Regarding the development, Gowrish Basavarajappa, lead inventor, said, “This technology brings a simple yet effective approach to improving antenna performance, which can be critical in next-generation wireless systems. The collaboration with industry will help translate our lab research into practical deployment.”
The institute further states that Taiyab Zia Ahmed and Deepa Goyal, representatives from MTEKPRO TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LTD confirmed their commitment to scaling the technology for commercial deployment.
“We are excited to bring this IIT Roorkee technology into our product line. The gain enhancement solution has tremendous potential for industrial applications, and we look forward to commercialising it for broader markets,” the representatives said.
