NEW DELHI: With JEE Advanced 2024 one month away, aspirants will be focusing on revision and strategies for exam day. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2024 on May 26 for admission to engineering programmes at IITs.

JEE Advanced 2024 registration will begin tomorrow, April 27 at jeeadv.ac.in. Candidates who qualified JEE Main 2024 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2024.

As per JEE Advanced exam analysis last year, students found the mathematics section challenging. The overall difficulty level of the exam was moderate to difficult. The paper was divided into three sections - physics, chemistry, and mathematics - and each section carried 60 marks. Students were given three hours to attempt the questions. Here are the tips, shared by Ajay Sharma National Academic Director, Engineering, Aakash BYJU’S.

JEE Advanced 2024: Tips to tackle challenging sections

Given below are some tips by experts on how to tackle challenging sections in JEE Advanced 2024 based on the previous year exams.

Familiarize yourself with exam pattern, marking scheme: Before starting the preparation for exam, it is important for the student to understand the type of questions, number of questions, marking scheme, and distribution of chapters in each section. The previous year question papers will help familiarize students with the paper patterns so that they can allocate their time as per the difficulty level of the questions during preparation as well as on the exam day.

Solidify your concepts: Instead of cramming or rote memorization, try to understand the basic concepts of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. This will help students tackle any kind of challenge thrown at them instead of just knowing predefined questions and answers.

Identify high-scoring topics: Go through the question papers of previous years and try to identify recurring topics carrying more marks. Shift your focus on preparing for those topics first.

Practice on a daily basis: Practising daily not only helps dive deep into the fundamentals but also improves your speed and accuracy in attempting a question. Study daily and learn from mock tests, PYQs, and reference books.

Time management: It is a very important factor in acing the exam. During exam preparation, learn to manage your time by practicing time-bound tests. On the exam day, identify easy and high scoring questions and attempt them first. Leave the difficult questions which you are less confident about for the end.

Learn to stay calm: Along with studies, students are advised to practice stress-relief techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, and positive mindset as the exam pressure can be quite overwhelming.

Use elimination technique: In case of uncertainty, the elimination technique helps narrow down the options especially in the multiple-choice questions. Eliminate the most obvious incorrect answers and then evaluate the remaining options to find the right one.

Break down complex problems: In case of complex questions, break them down into smaller problems and tackle each section methodically. Try to find clues within the question or approach it with a strategy you’d use for a similar problem.

Revise regularly: Without revision, students will keep forgetting the concepts learned previously, therefore, it is important to revise daily. It will also help in identifying the sections you are weak in. For a quick reference, make notes of major concepts and formulas.

Seek help: Students should not hesitate to ask in case they find difficulties in understanding a concept or have doubts. They are advised to seek help from coaching institutes, teachers, study forums, to clarify doubts.
