Postpone JEE Main 2023 January exams to April, relax 75% criterion for droppers: Students demand

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the annual exam calendar for 2023-24 to avoid postponement and cancellation of national-level exams like this year. However, students have expressed their concerns as Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main 2023) exam dates fall between CBSE Class 10, 12 pre-board exams and practical exams.

Besides requesting the NTA to postpone JEE Main 2022 session 1 schedule to be held in January, students have also demanded the officials to remove the 75% criterion to be eligible for appearing the engineering entrance exams.

According to the JEE Main 2023 brochure, admission to BE, BTech, BArch, BPlanning courses in NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board will be based on all India rank subject to the condition that the students should have secured at least 75% marks in the Class 12 exams. SC, ST candidates should have secured 65% in the Class 12 or in the qualifying examination.

The NTA had removed this criteria as an one-time measure for JEE Main 2022 candidates due to COVID-19 pandemic impact on education. Stating that the the droppers will not get enough time to prepare for the exam, several students have been requesting to hold JEE Main 2023 exams in April. The JEE Main 2023 registration for January session has started on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Taking the requests into consideration, the NTA announced to conduct the JEE Main 2023 exams in two sessions - January and April. Nevertheless, a section of students have requested to postpone the January JEE Mains 2023 exams also to April.

The CBSE will be holding the CBSE Class 10, 12 practical exams from January 1, 2023. The pre-board examinations for Delhi government schools are underway. Delhi pre-board exams which began on December 15 will continue till December 28, 2022.

The CBSE Board also confirmed that the CBSE Class 10, 12 exams 2023 will begin from February 15 and released the subject-wise break-up of marks. The board is expected to soon announced the CBSE Class 10, 12 exam 2023 dates on the official website, cbse.gov.in.

JEE Main 2023 in April

Several students have started flooding Twitter with requests to postpone JEE Main 2023 exams from January to April for droppers and to relax the 75% criterion.

Tagging the Union education minister, a students requested “to postpone session 1 of JEE Main 2023 from Jan to April. As we have very less time especially droppers it is creating a sence of depression and havoc among aspirnts.”

“Whatever exam is conducted in India be it any Olympiad,KVPY,NEET or any other exam the dates are always announced 3 months before but only for JEE main this is not being done. If NTA can't handle this then they don't need to conduct jee mains,” another student said.

“All the students having less than 75% in Boards and are appearing in Jee mains 2023 .
