NEW DELHI: Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has extended the registration deadline for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) till September 30. The extension offers more time for eligible students to apply for the scholarship program through the official website, kseab.karnataka.gov.in.

The NMMS scheme, run by the Ministry of Education, provides scholarships to students in classes 9 to 12 who excel academically but come from economically weaker sections. The scheme helps such students continue their education by easing the financial burden of school fees and related expenses.

Karnataka NMMS 2024: Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students studying in Class 8 in government, local body, and government-aided schools are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) in the Class 7 examination.
  • The family income should not exceed Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.

Karnataka NMMS 2024: How to Apply

  • Applications are generally submitted online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) or the respective state’s education department website.
  • Schools often guide students in registering for the NMMS examination, ensuring they meet the necessary requirements.
  1. Required Documents :

    • Duly filled application form.
    • Income certificate issued by a competent authority.
    • Class 7 mark sheet as proof of academic performance.
    • Aadhaar card or other government-issued identity proof.
  2. Selection Process :

    • Students are selected based on their performance in the NMMS examination, which includes a Mental Ability Test (MAT) and a Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
    • Qualifying students will receive an annual scholarship of Rs. 12,000 to support their education from Class 9 onwards.

The NMMS scheme plays a crucial role in reducing the dropout rate among economically disadvantaged students by providing financial assistance to help them continue their education up to the senior secondary level. This extension gives more students the opportunity to benefit from the program, potentially impacting their academic and professional futures positively.
