Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan issued revised guidelines raising age for Class 1 admission, removing MP quota, exempting covid affected children from fees.
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court upheld the judgment of the Delhi High Court dismissing pleas challenging the decision of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to raise the minimum age criteria for Class 1 admissions from 5 years to 6 years from the academic year 2022-23 onwards, the Live Law reported.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundresh dismissed a special leave petition filed by few parents challenging the April 11 judgment of the Delhi HC, the report said. The bench reportedly said that it was in “full agreement” with the view of the single bench and dismissed the petitions.

On April 11, the Delhi High Court dismissed pleas challenging the minimum age criteria of six years for admission to Class 1 in Kendriya Vidyalaya for the upcoming academic session. "I am dismissing the petitions," said Justice Rekha Palli who was dealing with a batch of petitions which argued that the sudden change in the minimum age requirement from five years to six years by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) was unreasonable and arbitrary.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, KVS released the revised admission guidelines for admissions into the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan schools for Classes 1 to 12 on the KVS website -- kvsangathan.nic.in. KVS admissions 2022-23 says that a student of Class 1 must be at least 6 years old as of March 31 of that particular academic year and should not be more than 8 years old on March 31. "Child born on 1st April should also be considered," say the guidelines.
Moreover, the Centre has scrapped the discretionary Member of Parliament or MP quota for admissions to Kendriya Vidyalayas, according to the revised admission guidelines issued by KVS. The move comes weeks after the KVS put on hold all discretionary quotas, including the MP quota, for admissions to various central schools across the country, following a review.
