Madras University to conduct all semester exams for UG, PG students offline: Report

The University of Madras has decided to hold exams in offline mode from November.
NEW DELHI: The University of Madras has decided to conduct all semester exams for undergraduate and postgraduate students in offline mode from November, as per a NewIndianExpress report.
S Gowri, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University told TNIE: “From November onwards, students will have to write all semester examinations physically in their classrooms. Classes have resumed, so it is the right time to get back to offline examination.”

"All the affiliated colleges will be asked to make necessary arrangements as per Covid-19 protocol to conduct offline exams," Gowri added.
The decision to conduct offline exams was taken in a syndicate meeting of the university held recently. Some sources said that many university officials agreed on offline exams to ensure proper learning and quality among students, the report said.
"What can you expect the student to learn if they have to write answers by seeing their books and upload it later on. We are noticing that after attending online classes for over a year, it has become difficult for students to remain attentive in class," a faculty member of the university told TNIE.
During the pandemic, the university was forced to conduct exams online like other colleges and institutes. During the online exams, students were supposed to download the question papers and upload their answers within three hours of completing the exam. Even those students who could not upload their written answers were provided with the option to send their answers through post, the report said.
The university is conducting classes in hybrid mode (online+offline), the report added.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university also said that an analysis of the internal examinations will be done, and if it is found that students are not able to perform well, then remedial classes will be conducted to make up for the loss of learning due to the pandemic.
