Medical colleges failing to submit details of MBBS admissions 2023 will face action: NMC

NEW DELHI: The National Medical Commission (NMC) warned of action against medical colleges that fail to submit the details of candidates admitted to undergraduate (UG) medical courses by tonight, October 20.

The commission also observed that the medical colleges are admitting additional students for MBBS courses under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota over and above the sanctioned quota.

“All Institutions are required to admit the sanctioned number of students including EWS category within the permitted seat quota. No additional seat shall be permitted by the National Medical Commission,” it said.

The Government of India introduced 10% EWS reservation through the 103rd constitutional amendment, which is applicable for medical education as well, the NMC said.

As per the earlier announcement, the last date to submit details of first year admissions in the medical colleges is October 20.

“By way of Circular mentioned above, the UGMEB provided more than one weeks' time as stipulated under the above mentioned proviso to the Regulation 17 of GMER, 2023, to the medical colleges, however some college failed to abide by the schedule fixed by the NMC,” it noted.

The commission further said failure to furnish information regarding the admission made in academic session 2023-24 will be “viewed seriously”.

“This alert is issued to direct the colleges who have not furnished the information as sought vide Circular dated 09.10.2023 latest by 12 midnight of 20.10.2023, otherwise appropriate action shall be initiated against defaulter colleges as deemed necessary by the NMC,” it added.
