Nagaland University, the only central university in the state, has opened applications for its four-year undergraduate science programme for the 2026 academic session. The programme will be offered through the multi-disciplinary research centre (MDRC) at its lumami campus.

Applications opened on April 27 and will remain open until May 18, 2026. Interested candidates can apply online at admission.nagalanduniversity.ac.in/ or write to the university at mdrc@nagalanduniversity.ac.in for more details.

The course structure brings together core science subjects: physics, chemistry, mathematics, zoology and botany, along with ability enhancement and value added courses. The aim is to give students a well-rounded academic experience that goes beyond textbook learning.

Students who have scored at least 50 per cent in their Class 12 or equivalent examinations from recognised boards such as CBSE, ICSE, AHSEC, BSEB or other state and national boards can apply. Those awaiting their Class 12 results are also eligible, subject to admission rules.

The application process is entirely online, and the university has invited students from across the country to apply for the programme at its Lumami campus.

Nagaland University introduces flexible science programme

With this new offering, Nagaland University is aligning its undergraduate education with the national education policy (NEP) 2020. The programme follows a flexible choice-based credit system (FCBS), giving students the freedom to move in and out of the course at different stages.

Depending on how long they stay enrolled, students can earn a certificate after one year, a diploma after two years, a bachelor’s degree after three years, or a bachelor’s degree with research after four years. Those completing the research track may also be eligible for direct entry into PhD programmes, as per existing rules.

Limited seat intake and MDRC course

The MDRC programme will offer B.Sc. degrees in five disciplines: physics, chemistry, mathematics, zoology and botany. Each course will have a limited intake of 10 students, which the university believes will allow for more personalised attention and deeper academic engagement.

The curriculum has been designed to keep pace with current academic and industry needs. It blends classroom teaching with practical exposure, aiming to prepare students for both higher studies and professional careers.

MDRC curriculum emphasises research, skills and real-world readiness

A key focus of the programme is to build skills alongside academic knowledge. Students will take part in employability-focused courses, as well as modules that enhance analytical thinking and everyday problem-solving abilities.

The university says students will have access to modern laboratories, digital learning tools, and well-equipped academic spaces. Resources from the central library and other facilities are expected to support both coursework and independent research.

Speaking about the new programme, vice-chancellor Jagadish Kumar Patnaik said it reflects the university’s effort to rethink undergraduate education in line with national priorities.
