National Digital University will help solve seat issues with unlimited seats for every subject: PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the webinar on implementation of Union Budget 2022 organised by Ministry of Education today at 11am. PM Modi called for quick implementation of the initiatives on education sector announced in Union Budget 2022. University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and other education stakeholders were present and will further continue.

Modi said that the government has formed a tradition of discussion of budget with stakeholders before and after every budget and today’s programme is a part of it where each member will discuss in detail various aspects of the budget.

Talking about the provision of the National digital university in the budget, PM Modi said that it is a unique, unprecedented idea which will help solve seat problems in the country as unlimited seats for every subject will be available. This university will transform education world, he said.

The prime minister urged UGC, AICTE, Education Ministry to fastrack work on digital university with international standards. He said that the intent and policy framework for the formation of global standards is present, and they have to work on implementation.

Education Budget 2022

Modi said that youth leads the country's future and is the nation builder, empowering the youth implies empowering India's future. With this thinking in mind, 5 things will be focussed on in education budget 2022

• Universalisation of quality education
• Skill development - Digital skilling ecosystem, with the introduction of industry 4.0, need to provide skill development based on demands of industry, better industry linkage
• Urban planning and design - ancient experience and knowledge to be incorporated in education
• Internationalisation - world class universities , GIFT city, start fintech organisations
• ABGC (Animation, Visual effects, Gaming, Comic) - employment opportunities, use of Indian talent in these fields

“This budget will take care of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020,” PM Modi said.

With the help of digital features introduced even before the COVID-19 pandemic by the Modi government including connection of villages through optical fibre, better connectivity infrastructure etc., education has been saved from COVID-19 and digital divide is decreasing in the country today, PM Modi said.

Digital Education

Innovation ensures inclusion and the country is moving towards integration. Modernity in budget includes such as Evidya, one class one channel, digital labs, digital universities, will help youth and assist socio-economic setup while providing better education to poor, scheduled caste (SC) etc.

PM Modi mentioned that today is Matribhasha Diwas and said that education is connected with the mother language of kids. While medical and technical education in regional languages has already begun in the country, e-content needs to be started in digital version in regional languages via TV, internet, radio. He said that the curriculum for Indian sign language is being developed to help physically challenged people.

Coming to digitalisation, PM Modi said that teachers need to be trained for better delivery of digital tools. The demographic dividend needs to be prepared quickly in accordance with global talent demands and introduction of new job roles. For this, the academic and industry need to work together, he said.

The education budget focusses on tourism, drone, animation, cartoon, defence sectors as these will create job opportunities with the help of related startups which need trained manpower for their development.

Further, Urban planning and design will also create opportunities for jobs, transform the urban landscape for which AICTE needs to provide better education and training.

The prime minister asked for inputs on this from the people of the country. “I believe we will be able to implement all points of budget with the help of you,” he said.
